Saturday ~ Earth Day Celebration

Please Join us Saturday, April 26Th to celebrate Earth Day 2008. Although Earth day is celebrated just one day per year, we all need to adopt the attitude that Earth Day is Every Day and we all need to do our part to keep Mother Earth clean and environmentally friendly.

Saturday from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM we will have Master Gardeners on hand to answer your questions about spring planting, erosion, maintenance of your garden & water conservation.

There will also be fun for the kids, refreshments and door prizes.

Here are a few pictures of our garden at the store, it is turning into quite the little oasis.

We still have all of this to plant
Earth Day is the perfect time to think outside the box. What are the consequences of our choices? What products are better for the earth? What should we avoid?
Start out by purchasing products that you can recycle or re-use
Our product choices, packaging, reusing, and recycling are all areas that affect our homes.
Just pick one of the following ideas and get started today!

The conscious choices we make everyday will make a difference tomorrow.
Pick cardboard in place of Styrofoam containers

Recycle newspapers, magazines, junk mail & corrugated boxes

Use reusable canvas bags at the grocery instead of paper or plastic.

Store food in reusable containers like Tupperware instead of foil or plastic wrap.

Recycle glass, plastic, and cans

Do not throw oil based toxic paint in the trash, this is considered hazardous waste.

Plant a Tree, or two or three

Is recycling, conserving, and being environmentally conscious a smart thing to do?
Just ask your children.

Customer Appreciation

I wanted to let you know about a special event that is going to be held this
Friday, April 18th or today if you are just reading your blog.

Emily's Attic on McDonough Square will be open until 10:00 PM and from 5:00 until 10:00 they are offering "NO TAX" on all sales.

Of course this has inspired The Plum Tree as well and our new neighbors Blumen Trio to do the same as a way of expressing our thanks to all of our customers for your continued support.

Blumen Trio is also hosting their Grand Opening the 18th and 19th so please go by and welcome them to the neighborhood. Below are just a few of the great things they have to offer.

Blumen Trio

The Plum Tree also wants to remind you of our Earth Day Celebration, Saturday April 26 in the Garden.
Master Gardeners Joy and Sylvia will be on hand to answer your gardening questions, plus there will be drawings for adult Eco-friendly bags filled with lots of garden goodies.

Jeni and her two children, Ben and Mattie will be on hand to help the kids make Earth Day bracelets and also collect names for the kids drawing.

Hope you enjoy what's new at Plum Tree this week!

This weeks Talented Artist
goes to...Carol, Aka The Backyard Junkie.

(Remember if you want to be featured, just contact me via email)

Although Carol and I have never met, she did purchase a bicycle from Ms. Wendy's to recycle into this work of art for the garden.

You can visit Carol on her blog at http://www.thebackyardjunkie.com/
Carol's one of a kind designs are truly incredible, her patience and talent show in each piece of mosaic tile art she creates.

Carol has also created and donated pieces for charities that are close to her heart. Below is a piece she donated to DARE dachshund rescue for their Howl-o-Weenie fundraiser, which will help lots of doxies find forever homes!

Another piece, the Blue Willow ball was donated to Trees Atlanta for their silent auction fundraiser and brought the suggested price! This is a wonderful organization that helps so much to keep Atlanta green!
